Asleep in the Light!

“Asleep in the Light!”
July ‘08
Keith Green wrote this song about the church:
Do you see, do you see,
All the people sinking down
Don`t you care, don`t you care,
Are you gonna let them drown
How can you be so numb,
Not to care if they come
You close your eyes,
And pretend the job`s done"
Oh bless me Lord, bless me Lord",
You know it`s all I ever hear
No one aches, no one hurts,
No one even sheds one tear
But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds,
And He cares for your needs
And you just lay back, And keep soaking it in,
Oh, can`t you see it`s such a sin?
Open up open up, And give yourself away
You see the need, you hear the cries,
So how can you delay
God`s calling and you`re the one,
But like Jonah you run
He`s told you to speak
But you keep holding it in,
Oh can`t you see it`s such a sin?
Cause He brings people to your door,
And you turn them away
As you smile and say, "God bless you, be at peace",
And all heaven just weeps,
Cause Jesus came to you door,
You`ve left him out on the streets
The world is sleeping in the dark,
That the church just can`t fight,
Cause it`s asleep in the light,
How can you be so dead,
When you`ve been so well fed
Jesus rose from the grave,
And you, you can`t even get out of bed
Oh, Jesus rose from the dead,
Come on, get out of your bed

It is funny that the church, which should be the full expression of Christ to a dying world, would be classified as asleep in the light! But it is true! We let celebrities and politicians do the work of the church by reaching those in need. We are no longer a hospital for the sick but a country club for its members! It is time to wake up and serve instead of being asleep.Gal 6:2 says; “Carry one another’s burdens and in this way fulfill the LAW OF CHRIST!
The Law of Christ is shown in 1 Cor 13…And let me show you the most excellent way… LOVE!As we continue to Connect with Christ and connect with others, our focus will be the community both near and far.
Join with me as we pray to find ways of reaching our community for Christ. Please feel free to email me with ideas and ways to make a difference in the community. No idea is too big or small.
In order to reach this generation we will need to do things we have never done before to reach people we never reached before. Some will work and others will fail. The great thing about our journey is that we will find out what works and do it well! Please join us in fulfilling the great commission in light of the great commandment.
God bless
Pastor Ed

Don't forget how your were saved and Rob was saved...SOFTBALL. The guys that Rob played with for years were not a part of our lives for a while because of too much temptation but the Lord brought them back into our lives right now to do relationships without the drinking and etc...It is different that is for sure but hopefully they see a glimpse of us that has changed over the years. This Saturday is Robert's graduation party and no alcohol and they were invited and they know there is no alcohol and they are going to be here so that is a step in the right direction. Help us pray for these young men that we can touch their lives!!!!
